Benefits Of Landscaping and Lawn Care

Nowadays, a good home and a good lawn should go hand in hand. All lawns just like other plants, need water to live and grow. The quantity of water to be used on the lawn is directly related to the weather season and the grass type planted. The Bermuda, St. Augustine and buffalo are most commonly used types of grasses.

The Kentucky blue grass is another type of grass used on the lawns that requires more watering than the rest. The hotness or coldness of the weather also directly relates to the quantity of water used on the lawn. In the summer season when it is basically hot, a lot of evaporation takes place thus leaving the lawn dry. Watering the ground or the lawn during the summer is important to avoid the heat sucking up all the water from the lawn.

The winter season on the other hand allows the ground or the lawn to maintain its moisture. The moisture on the ground during the winter season is basically due to the low rate of evaporation. Another way to ensure the grass grows well is by applying fertilizers on the lawn. The type of grass planted and the weather season also influence the time to fertilize the lawn. The type of grass which is fertilized during the summer season include the Bermuda and the buffalo.

The cold season type of grass like the Kentucky blue grass are better fertilized during the winter cooler seasons. Fertilizers are usually made of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous which are very essential additives and nutrients for the grass. Instead of buying fertilizers, you can also make your own from home by using wood ashes, bone meal and coffee grounds. Another recipe of making home-made fertilizer include mouthwash, beer, ammonia and Epsom salts.

Weeding is another important method of lawn care. Tall grasses rarely have weeds thus the grass should be allowed to grow for more than three inches. Weeding can also be done by the use of vinegar which is strong and does not affect the grass in any way. The other effective methods of weeding include pulling them out, using herbicides to kill the weed and also laying mulch to prevent them from growing. Pests in the lawn can be eliminated by using pesticides. The common pests found in the lawn are slugs, insects and snails. You can also save a lot of money used for buying pesticides and hiring professionals by simply cleaning the lawn. Lawn care also involves mowing the grass to make it thicker.
